I think this was the funniest book I read this year, but it was also pretty dark. I loved it.

Wonderfully funny skewering of both the fantasy genre and the publishing industry. Think a blend of Pratchett and Gaiman with a smattering of St Aubyn and Jasper Fforde. Great fun.
This is a fantasy novel for people (like me) who scoff at serious fantasy novels - a hilarious satire on the genre and, in fact, on the entire publishing industry. It's published as a YA novel, but there's nothing YA about it. I loved it. #bookspinbonanza book number 8
Just a little sample of the Murdstone Trilogy....
And his Agent's description of the genre is even better, but too long to get in a photo!
Reading this and chuckling on the train this morning. I haven't read a lot of wizard and goblin epics, but I know enough to appreciate this!
I immediately thought of my Other Half as I read this. Him Indoors has an unaccountable dislike of Mexican food and this description is tailor made to appeal to him.
I'm only 20 pages in and I've already laughed out loud 3 times, including at this section. I'm optimistic...
Funny book, but dark, very dark. I'm glad I didn't stay up too late to finish it!
"The sun sinks, leaving tatty furbelows of crimson cloud in the Dartmoor sky."
"Philip Murdstone sat considering the phrase 'depths of despair'. It's plural implied the there were, even now, levels of it that he had yet to experience."
