I am really looking forward to try this out! I loved her other series...dreamerspool. My Hope's are high...if you've read this tell me how you liked it! I'll be doing a review after :)
This was so enjoyable. A coming of age tale. Fun and relatable characters. The sequel is also great. And then the third book screws it all up. This author is a fine writer, but her books are hit and miss for me.
"Keldec was crowned king in the year of my birth. By the time I was old enough to begin understanding what canny meant, I learned that fear turned friend into foe and I learned to keep secrets." Neryn is a Caller, a person who can actually communicate with and "call" the fey so they will do her bidding. She may be the kingdom of Alban's only hope. #awholenewworld #jubilantjuly
I picked this book up this past summer on a whim, where it then lived in my insane TBR pile. I finally read it and I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. In a way it kind of reminded me of the movie "The Labyrinth" with the "good folk" who help Neryn on her journey. I also read a lot of YA-like an alarming amount- but I really liked Neryn, she's only 15 but shes so mature after crap she's gone through. I'm def going to read bk 2!
I love Juliet Marillier. All of her books are excellent and engrossing. Shadowfell didn't impress me as much as her Sevenwaters series, but it was still a lovely and gracefully written novel with strong characters, a heart-melting romance, and fae creatures with magic!
