Really enjoyed Molly Antopol‘s short story collection. The stories take place throughput the last century and deal with immigration (from Israel and Eastern Europeans) and “Un-American” behavior as a unifying theme. But, each story brings something else to bear on the human experience on a more micro level.

Most of these stories broke my heart in small ways. This was a great collection that takes a close look at family, escape, and feelings of alienation in your own life. Sooo good!!!

The book club I'm in has been going since January and so far I have been the only person to pick fiction. I used my influence with our June host, who was undecided between a few choices and wanted my thoughts, to get this one. Mwuhahaha!!!

I brought this book away with me for 4th of July weekend and it was completely subconscious, not sure what this says about me!

A diverse set of short stories, ranging from Israel to Eastern Europe to the United States, 1940s to the present, men and women of varying ages and personalities. The longer lengths gave Antopol to flesh out complex, thought-provoking situations. I can get behind the hype!

Somehow the stories in this collection felt startlingly real. The flaws in the characters and the dilemmas they faced were relatable. A couple of moments were truly heartbreaking.
