A celebration of love and connection for young readers Susan Verde and Peter H. Reynolds continue their collaboration with the fourth book in their bestselling wellness series. A celebration of love in all its forms, I Am Love asks readers to look inward when they feel afraid. This is an amazing book that focuses on self love and compassion. Our students need to value themselves and others in order to create a safe welcoming environment. This RF, PB would be a great RA to demonstrate the importance of healthy relationships and what they feel like. Susanverde.com offers a teaching guide for her “I am” series books. One for “I am love” is to allow students to have sticky notes and spread kindness to each other.

Tabitha_H #UCFLAE3414SP20 The ESOL strategy to accompany this book would be #3, to encourage self talk ( positive thinking ). The “I am” serious are great for self reflection. For the UDL principle I would use 9.3, develop self assessment and reflection. 5y
DrSpalding A read aloud or an author study that features this book and the rest in the series would be well received in an elementary classroom. Your English learner strategy along with your universal design principle work perfectly with the theme of this book. 5y

This book of compassion is all about loving yourself when things get hard. Love teaches compassion and kindness. This RF book would be a great RA in class to help students learn to love themselves and others. Susansverde.com has a list of all of her amazing books as well as info about her and her upcoming events. EL strategy of encouraging self-talk (positive thinking) would be great for this book.

Madison_swart UDL principle 9.3 develop self-assessment and reflection also goes well with this book. #UCFLAE3414sp20 5y
hadassajl This book seems like it would be such a lovely read. Teaching children self-acceptance and self-love is so important and only gets more important as they grow up! I will definitely check this out! 5y
DrSpalding Read aloud for this series works well. You could also complete an author study using your peer‘s Piktochart! 5y

Another Susan Verde favorite called I am Love, A Book of Compassion, with Art by Peter Reynolds. I think I have found one of my favorite authors of realistic fiction. This is a story about a girl learning to lead a life full of compassion, understanding, tenderness, and most importantly love! This again would be great shared as a RA, to encourage connecting and understanding others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V5AIDu1GHo.

Brennap Some UDL principles that are emphasized by and through this book are 9.2 & 9.3 which have to do with facilitating personal coping skills and self assessment and reflection. Some ESOL strategies that also go along are again 3. Which “encourage self- talk(positive thinking)”. So overall this a great read to help engage social emotional learning! 5y
SequoiaC123 This is a book I am considering adding to my future classroom library based on your description of it. As a teacher I do want to teach kids compassion and how important it is and this would be the perfect book to do so! 5y
DrSpalding This is a beautiful series of books. You are correct that the English learner strategy regarding positive thinking works well with these books. Obviously, the author study Pikyochart could be used as a resource as well. 5y
