#7Books7Days It‘s through this book that I learned about the genocidal act against Native Americans that was the damming of Celilo Falls on the Columbia River. It was a gathering place for catching salmon for thousands of years. Indians still fish there on the reservoir but the runs are decimated. This book helped send me down a path of advocating for wild salmon and free flowing rivers.

MargaretPinardAuthor I haven‘t read this book, but a photo print I picked up at vista point unraveled the issue for me and then I went to a couple Native focused events before the quarantine put on by multcolib and literary arts. So crazy how much we‘ve changed things! 5y
SamAnne @MargaretPinardAuthor Winterkill has a scene where one of the characters is watching the drowning of the falls when the gates were closed at Dalles Dam. I work for a coalition advocating for the removal of the 4 lower Snake River dams in eastern WA. Have listened to first person accounts of the drowning and it is so heart breaking. 5y
Hooked_on_books My husband was born in The Dalles and grew up in Hood River and told me all about this story. One of the many terribly damaging things our country has done through lack of care and understanding. 5y
SamAnne @Hooked_on_books such beautiful country around there! I live in Spokane and drive to Portland frequently for work and family. I always stop at the Celilo “park” to let the dog run and dip his paws in the Columbia and to take time to contemplate the place. 5y
