The Story of My Tits
The Story of My Tits | Jennifer Hayden
8 posts | 12 read | 19 to read
"When Jennifer Hayden was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 43, she realized that her tits told a story. Across a lifetime, they'd held so many meanings: hope and fear, pride and embarrassment, life and death. And then they were gone. Now, their story has become a way of understanding her story: a journey from the innocence of youth to the chaos of adulthood, through her mother's mastectomy, her father's mistress, her husband's music, and the endlessly evolving definition of family. As cancer strikes three different lives, some relationships crumble while others emerge even stronger, and this sarcastic child of the '70s finally finds a goddess she can believe in" --

Finished this #graphicmemoir on Hoopla this morning. Funny, insightful, and I enjoyed the background details in each of the four-panel pages. (It took me longer than 30 minutes to read but that's what I read this morning.)

I also tried #Bookly for a second, but it didn't give me a square infographic and multiple users (including Pro ones) on the Play Store complained about syncing issues.

CaroPi In my case I have to go to the infographics and select the square option 5y
trueisa4letterword @CaroPi Yes, I did that but it still didn't work. Repeatedly. 5y
CaroPi ☹️ try to contact their costumer support. They were quite good with me. 5y

A #graphicmemoir following the author through her lifelong relationship with her breasts from the time she was flat-chested when everyone else was developing, through nursing, her thoughts on her Mom losing a breast to cancer, until she herself had to make that choice. With much on family life, friends, change, & emotions sprinkled throughout, this is an extremely well done & thought-provoking memoir of a woman‘s life.

Just finished this beautifully illustrated graphic novel about, you guessed it, tits. But really it was about so much more... When Jennifer was diagnosed with breast cancer, she realized her tits told a story. This is that story. Please go out and read it. 💗

I don't really read comics/graphic novels and thus I turned to good old Google for today's #AndItsJuly #comicsbywomen and found this beauty... #addtoTBR @RealLifeReading

Hayden's voice is equal parts self-deprecating and sincere, bringing to mind Roz Chast's heartfelt but hilarious memoir Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant. Both artists have a scribbly style, a gift for empathy, and powerful messages about the nature of death and family. Hayden in particular is skilled at gradually growing a list of symbols derived from dreams, art, and anecdotes that build momentum and unity into her life experiences.

LauraBrook I read this during my mom's recovery from breast cancer and I really appreciated her story. Nice to see that someone not dealing with that disease still enjoyed this book! 8y
Jokila @LauraBrook it was so funny and so sweet 😊 I loved it! I hope your mom is doing as well as Hayden! 8y
