Happiness Sold Separately
Happiness Sold Separately | Lolly Winston
4 posts | 8 read | 3 to read
The New York Times bestseller about how marriage, love, and how sometimes falling in love with the wrong person at the wrong time can be the right thing. Elinor Mackey has lived her life in perfect order: college, law school, marriage, successful corporate career. But when she discovers that she and her podiatrist husband, Ted, can't have children, Elinor withdraws into her own world of heartbreak and anger. While Elinor falls in love with the oak tree in their front yard, sleeping under it at night, Ted begins an affair with Gina, the nutritionist at their gym. Ted, who may be the only one who can help Gina and her son, suddenly finds himself in love with two women at the same time. In the tradition of Anne Tyler, John Cheever, and Tom Perrotta, Winston's second novel looks beyond the manicured surface of suburbia to a world of loss, longing, lust, and betrayal.

A few years ago I stopped buying t-shirts and stuff as vacation souvenirs and started buying a book from a local bookstore instead. 🙄 @RealLifeReading

BekahPat What a lovely idea! I always look up indie bookstores on our travels. I also look to see if there are any book signing events taking place. I recently got to see Amor Towles speak and he signed my copy of A Gentleman in Moscow. Book traveling is awesome traveling. 8y
mcipher That is so fun! I should make that more of a habit. I'm usually a library girl because I'm cheap but it doesn't hurt to look at s bookstore, right? I loved both of Lolly Winston's books. 8y
RobinW What a cool idea! 8y

youngreadrshelf We have too. Thus we hit two bookstores in two days. Can be more expensive than a t-shirt though. #bookdragonproblems 8y
Lmstraubie @BekahPat Such a wonderful perk to your vacation ☺ Great idea! Thank you! 8y
Lmstraubie @mcipher I'm actually pretty cheap (frugal, conservative, thrifty) myself, but I do like to have a little memory from my trip. I'll use the book more than the t-shirt and like @youngreadrshelf said it's not going to cost more than a t-shirt lol 🤓 8y

This book was just what I needed! I like the perspective it gave on relationships, but I also liked the humor and down-to-earth perspective. I just haven't been able to read anything heavy lately. An effect of this past year - too much heavy in real life so I'm enjoying escaping to something realistic, but a little more manageable.
