I need to read more books like this. For sheer perspective sake. And there's definitely a lot of perspectives in this book due to the unique stories coming from so many diverse characters. Nair writes beautifully while simultaneously discussing sensitive topics. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Posting this quote because her book is full of introspective thoughts such as this, and I enjoyed every moment of the reading and reflecting.

"How could anyone become indifferent to such horror, when it stared you in the face every day?"
Continued in comments ⬇️

reading.rainb0w Taken out of context, this quote says a lot about reality and the horror we observe the world experiencing on a regular basis. War, killing, gun violence, assault... the list goes on. I can't even imagine the indifferent looks on people in the crowd when public hangings were a regular thing. Or getting excited to watch two people fight to the death in an arena as entertainment. 2y
reading.rainb0w Why do people become indifferent to horrors such as these? Denial? Coping Mechanism?
I know humans tend to have a fascination towards the macabre, but it still blows my mind that people can stare at such violence and not even flinch.

On a slightly more positive note, this book is blowing my mind. Definitely looking for more Anita Nair in the future. Her writing style has a way of drawing you in and wanting to learn more about the characters, despite how diverse and different their stories are. I started this book 2 days after it was overdue at the library. Now it's 10 days overdue, and I have no intention of turning it in until I finish. Thankfully there are no late fees. 😂

A Good read! The last time I read a book with so many characters was while reading Into The Water by Paula Hawkins The use of rare English words is extremely elegant. The book really centers on issues women face in our Indian society today and since ages. I loved the way the author describes our current era swamped and controlled by social media like FB, Insta & Twitter and whats lost on path of modernization. Painful ending and thought provoking!
