Today's 'scratched my brain just right' sentence:
"The kitchen at that hour was a place of drift and small preparations."
So many quiet mornings in familial companionship brought to mind.
A book of two halves: Regarding Henry meets Revolver - and the unanswered darker bits suggest a dash of The Devil's Advocate. The writing captivated me, but the subject matter seemed bent on repelling me. The themes I thought it was going for (how to spend a life, how ego thwarts happiness) seemed to have been abandoned for something more enigmatic by the end. Interesting experiment, but I can't say it was enjoyable. 1/2

People rave about Joshua Ferris books, few mention The Unnamed. This book is a haunting, compelling study in obsession. A Ferris Fan Must Read.

This is perhaps the most heartbreaking book I've ever read. Stick with it if at first you aren't grabbed.
