Corona has its advantages. There are hardly any tourists in town, so no line for the Anne Frank House. I took my niece and here she is discovering the book shelves that hid the entrance to Anne‘s hiding place. I‘ve often been with my own kids and as a kid myself but each time my heart breaks again.
Writing in a diary is a really strange experience for someone like me. Not only because I've never written anything before, but also because it seems to me that later on neither I nor anyone else will be interested in the musings of a thirteen-year-old schoolgirl. (June 20, 1942)
How fitting that I chose to read this book, today, on what would have been Anne Frank‘s 90th birthday had she survived the Holocaust. Just 3 weeks after turning 13, Anne, her sister & parents along with 4 others went into hiding, living in a secret annex for 28 months. Her diary “became a kind of memory book” a place to “hide inside” of herself. Filled with longings, dreams, insights, crushes, worries her diary is a powerful testament of hope.👇🏼
How insightful and from a 15 year old!!!! “And until all of humanity, without exception, undergoes a metamorphosis, wars will continue to be waged, and everything that has been carefully built up, cultivated and grown will be cut down and destroyed, only to start all over again!” #NeverForget
