TNH explains the power of silence by slowing down the mind so that we can recognize the surrounding beauty. Many people search for happiness; however, they spend their days frantically running from one place to another. Silence is about cultivating quiet in our minds amid chaos. TNH offers techniques to remind us to be present in the moment with equanimity in a noisy environment or mind.

Aside from a, frankly, disturbing story about a self-immolating monk, this is a refreshingly sane and helpful book. Yes, it is about being mindful of all the external "noise" in our lives, but the real focus is on the power of tuning out from "Radio NST": non-stop thinking.

Early Sunday morning. It‘s a different kind of silence than late night. There‘s a kind of crystal clear quality to the quietness. It almost feels like the whole world has moved away and I sit alone in this room with my books. As I read, it feels like I am experiencing the impact of this author‘s story on a deeper and more intimate level. I feel vulnerable in the way that this author can find me with her words and singe a meaning into my soul.👇🏽

Nute There is a mind-blowing connection between her, the author and me, the reader. I think that this might be my new favorite reading time of the day! Oh, what‘s up with this post? Nothing...(sometimes I am amazed by my alone time - the mere fact that it is happening, the quality of it and longevity of the moment)...I was just thinking out loud... 4y

This is the third of Thich Nhat Hanh‘s books I‘ve read, and it‘s become clear he often retreads familiar territory as he applies Buddhist ideas to different facets of life. That said, I‘ve discovered I need to hear these things over and over again, because living well can be hard and frequent reminders make it a bit easier to internalize these important messages.

That‘s me, though. You may find you can get all you need from just one of his books.

Crazeedi Read his books years ago, profound influence at a period in my life 5y
xicanti @Crazeedi I feel like I‘ll end up reading his whole bibliography this year. 5y
Crazeedi @xicanti that sounds awesome 5y
MemoirsForMe Well said! I may need to revisit this one. 5y
xicanti @UwannaPublishme good choice. 5y

Lots of wisdom and advice in this slim book on mindfulness, even for those who aren't a Buddhist monk like the author. A solid pick for the readers looking to learn more about spirituality, mindfulness, or meditation.
