Unholy Night
Unholy Night | Seth Grahame-Smith
From the author of the New York Times bestselling Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, comes UNHOLY NIGHT, the next evolution in dark historical revisionism. They're an iconic part of history's most celebrated birth. But what do we really know about the Three Kings of the Nativity, besides the fact that they followed a star to Bethlehem bearing strange gifts? The Bible has little to say about this enigmatic trio. But leave it to Seth Grahame-Smith, the brilliant and twisted mind behind Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to take a little mystery, bend a little history, and weave an epic tale. In Grahame-Smith's telling, the so-called "Three Wise Men" are infamous thieves, led by the dark, murderous Balthazar. After a daring escape from Herod's prison, they stumble upon the famous manger and its newborn king. The last thing Balthazar needs is to be slowed down by young Joseph, Mary and their infant. But when Herod's men begin to slaughter the first born in Judea, he has no choice but to help them escape to Egypt. It's the beginning of an adventure that will see them fight the last magical creatures of the Old Testament; cross paths with biblical figures like Pontius Pilate and John the Baptist; and finally deliver them to Egypt. It may just be the greatest story never told.

This was a lot of fun. Brutal, gritty action. I have never read or studied the Bible, so I was only nominally familiar with the core story. I'm also not a fan of religion in general, but this was ridiculous, yet engaging, enough that I was able to enjoy it.

Ericalambbrown Ha! I‘m an exvangelical/recovering Southern Baptist, so this could be precisely the ridiculousness I need. 2y
TieDyeDude @Ericalambbrown I definitely rolled my eyes when Mary and John would go on their rants, but I just had to remind myself of the basis for the story. There was just so little religious stuff in the beginning that it caught me off guard. 2y

1. Games of Thrones Christmas

2. I read a few stories in Italian in high school as a translation exercise, but, no, never a book.

3. Girly Drinks by Mallory O'Meara. I loved Lady from the Black Lagoon. I tried to buy Girly Drinks at Powell's, but their copy was damaged. Haven't found it elsewhere since, haven't ordered it online yet 🤷

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

p.s. I wanted something Christmas themed for today, but this is as close as I could get 🤣🤣🤣

This is the equivalent of mashing together the story of the three wise men and the birth of Jesus and an action movie. It certainly is action packed and pretty fun! I guess I was hoping for something a little more Christmas-y! Still, it‘s pretty fun- and always good to cross another one of the monthly TBR! #WinterGames #ReadNosedReindeer #AudioColoring

This was a fun book and a very inventive retelling of the “3 Kings” from the nativity story. Except this one has magical stuff happening alongside supernatural events. Very cool way the author tied together his story with events from the Nativity story.

howlinglibraries This looks really neat! I love the cover 😍 6y

This is the kind of humor I expected from Christopher Moore‘s Lamb... Though this fantastic retelling has a lot more action. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#Christmas with my plants. 🎄

Time to light my #candles, curl up in bed, read, and drink some peppermint hot cocoa.

PS: Unholy Night is a fun read, if you haven‘t picked it up yet.

Just checked this out of the library as an audiobook. Has anyone read it? The author is the reason I checked it out.

Bookzombie No, but I‘m intrigued. 🙂 7y
