My rating of this book has more to do with my expectations of the book than the book itself.

I thought this would be a Christmas book, but the only thing remotely Christmassy about the book is the title and that a man comes home to put on the Oratorio before Christmas.

Other than that this is more a family saga. Solveig wants to put up the Christmas oratorio, but dies in a cycle accident. Then we follow her husband and children and their lives.

Librarybelle That‘s a pretty cover! 1y

Andrew65 Often the way, presented as Christmas books but have very little if anything to do with Christmas ☃️☃️☃️ (edited) 1y
AnneCecilie @Andrew65 I don‘t demand that a Christmas book necessarily is set during Christmas, but it should a least be cozy if it‘s not. Apart from the title, I don‘t think Christmas is mentioned at all and it‘s definitely not set during Christmas. And for me at last there‘s nothing cozy about a family as dysfunctional as this one. 1y
Andrew65 @AnneCecilie Yes, definitely doesn‘t have a feel of a Christmas book. 1y

Pickpick

With a Hardy-like beginning, this novel follows the impact of a woman‘s death on three generations. Her husband Aron, unable to work the farm moves the family into town and slowly loses reality. Sidler, a witness to the accident, lives life at a remove. Victor, his estranged son, closes the circle by conducting a performance of Bach‘s Christmas Oratorio that his grandmother spent ten years rehearsing and was indirectly responsible for her death.

Andrew65 Well done 👏👏👏 3y

I‘ve fallen a bit behind with my #wintergames2020 points this week after such a strong start last week 😬 sometimes I‘m SO busy I just don‘t know where the time went at the end of the week, particularly with the new job which I‘m definitely enjoying but is a lot of time. Spending Saturday morning before I teach my zoom class finishing this one

Spent the morning cleaning and now sitting down with some coffee and the tagged book which I ordered weeks and weeks ago and it‘s finally arrived! Very excited to start this for #wintergames2020 in a clean wintry flat

Some of my December TBR for #wintergames2020. Did I mention I am not fond of holiday books? (insert grinch here) However, I was able to find a dozen or so winter-themed books in order to score some points for team #merryreaders!! ❄ ❄ ❄

Karisa @AmyK1 Yep, I hear you! Having it be a team thing makes it more fun to get into holiday spirit though. @Liz_M Snow Child is so good! 4y
