More than A Story of a Goat, this is a story of poverty in a rural community as people scrape to get by. The goat herself is also presented in a charming fashion. I enjoyed this.

Short novel with a small black goat as a main character; in the Orwellian tradition of using animals to deal with political and social constructs. This novel, set in a poor farming and herding community in India, looks at the plight of the poor and of women through the lives of an older couple and their “miraculous” goat. https://cannonballread.com/2020/10/the-story-of-a-goat-a-novel-elcicco/
"No matter how much you give to this heart, it will never be enough "
-Old Woman | Poonachi
I read this book after Animal Farm by Orwell and it's a delight. Highlights the emotional side of humans and well ad Poonachi whose a goat. Beware, the book undoubtedly is not meant for kids just cause it's a story of an animal. The simplicity in the authors writing is what won my heart.
Once in a village, there was a goat. No one knew where she was born. The birth of an ordinary life never leaves a trace, doesn't it?
