Escape from Freedom | Erich Fromm

One of my high school teachers introduced me to Erich Fromm; I‘ve been a fan ever since. Escape from Freedom is probably his most famous work and with good reason. Written at the height of Hitler‘s power before WWII turned against him, this book examines the social psychology of modern man. Fromm argues that capitalism and the Protestant revolution severed man‘s sense of self. Untethered from meaning, some men drift toward authoritarian leaders.

That took me a while.... Definitely a lot to think about, and some great insights to take on - sections about the alienation of the modern workforce definitely stood out. Can be challenging for the layman, and I daresay there are parts that are outdated or since been challenged, but worth pushing through regardless.

Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.
