The Seep is a novel for readers of Jeff VanderMeer and lovers of the queer fantastical in Carmen Maria Machado's Her Body and Other Parties. The Seep follows Trina Oneka, a trans woman whose life is irreversibly altered in the wake of a gentle--but nonetheless world-changing--invasion by an alien entity calling itself The Seep. Through The Seep, everything is connected. Capitalism falls, hierarchies and barriers are broken down; if a thing can be imagined, it is possible. For a time, Trina and her wife, Deeba, live blissfully under The Seep's utopian influence--until Deeba begins to imagine what it might be like to be reborn as a baby, to have a second chance at an even better life. Using Seep-tech to make this dream a reality, Deeba moves on toward a fresh new existence, and Trina is left devastated, blaming The Seep. Heartbroken and attempting to reorient herself in the world, Trina embarks on a vengeful quest to confront one of The Seep's most vocal devotees, the performance artist Horizon Line--and in the novel's hallucinatory climax, Trina seizes the one thing she thought she'd never want: a chance to begin again. A new weird elegy of love and loss, The Seep explores grief, alienation, and the ache of moving on.
