My god, I cannot think of another book that I‘ve ever read that annoyed me as much as this one. Maybe it‘s just that I‘m already not a huge fan of romance novels in general, but I could not wait for this story to be over. I felt like the climax fell flat, mostly due to how unlikeable the characters were (Patricio especially) and how much I was not rooting for them... but it did keep my attention and I finished it, so I can‘t say it was all bad.
I loved this book. A love story that lasts a lifetime. An emotional ride there's love, lies, betrayal, redemption and suspense.
My family is from Cuba and lived the the time period this book is based on.. I enjoyed reading this book doubly so because it encouraged me to discuss the persons, places and things with my father. I wish I would have read it in Spanish, there are just some things that cannot be translated, lol... it loses something... overall I absolutely recommend the book, great character building and insights!
A love story that spans 50 years. A tale of soul mates, friendships, and their survival. Havana comes alive in this book, so colourful, and filled with beautiful aroma. The historical facts rang true, very well written. The characters personalities came to life, the story never lagged, it kept my attention. I Loved the history, the characters and the storyline, the author transported me to another time and place.
This is my choice for this month's Amazon First Reads. Looks good. 👍
