“I bet dogs taste good.”
“I pulled Buster close. ‘Don‘t listen Buster, he‘s just trying to scare you.‘”

The language in this book really makes readers be able to imagine what Joshua sees and feels on his journey.

Westward to Home is a historical fiction book written by Patricia Holmes in 2001. This is the story of a nine year old boy named Joshua who was apart of the Oregon Trail in 1848. This book is cool because it is written like a diary from Joshua‘s perspective.

I lole that its called "westward to home" even though it's not home yet.

I think the format of telling history through the diary of a child is a good way for kids to learn about it. They dont have to deal with long chapters that may turn them away and they get to hear what it was like from a kids persepctive.
