Mehso-so

The old bait and switch where the prologue sucks you into the action but then the chapters back up to years before and most of the book is not about the main event. It is disappointing, especially since the author even says in the text that the goal was to set the record straight about the event itself, and yet it gets the fewest pages.

Just started this one! I don‘t read a ton of #nonfiction but this topic really interests me. This book details the historical wine tasting event in #France that essentially established #California (and the U.S. in general) as a premiere wine producing region. Also gets into the history of #Napa and California #wine. I‘m kind of a wine geek and I‘m going to Napa this month for my birthday, so this felt appropriate. ? Santé! #historical #winelover

AceOnRoam I think I saw a movie about this significant event? Maybe it was a documentary. Enjoy your book. 7y
LoLo_and_The_Dude @AceOnRoam Did you see “Bottleshock”? That was about Chateau Montelena, Bo Barrett, and the historical blind tasting. 7y
AceOnRoam @LoLo_and_The_Dude ah, yes, that's the one... thanks heaps! 7y

I read this because I love the movie Bottle Shock, about the 1976 tasting. The movie definitely fictionalizes and dramatizes the event. But the tasting takes up very little of this book. So unless you are just dying to learn about the details of developing wineries in Napa and the history of wine making techniques you can skip this one. Not bad, just not what I was looking for.

A little more history of wine making and Napa Valley than I was expecting so far, but interesting. Sadly, the book doesn't have Alan Rickman or Chris Pine.

keithmalek I came across this book yesterday and was wondering if I should read it. I've seen Bottle Shock twice and loved it. And even though books are just about always better than movies, I think I probably got "my fill" on this topic. Your thoughts? 4y

Excited to read about the event I learned about in the movie Bottle Shock.
