The only book I can think of right now. One of my first fantasy reads. What stuck with me in this one is how Athalus wants to steal from a rich merchant and all he finds is a strongbox full of brightly coloured rectangular papers. At the pub the next evening everyone laughs at the thief who didn't take the money! Athalus just didn't know about paper money 😂

A friend of mine is downsizing and offered me some Eddings books but I already own all of them. However, I couldn't resist the cover on this UK edition! Flipping through, I also found there's a lovely two page map at the beginning of the book, along with a map at the beginning of each section! 😻I see a reread in my future!
