In the latest in this New York Times bestselling series, San Francisco book-restoration expert Brooklyn Wainwright investigates a mysterious spy novel and a string of murders... Newlyweds Brooklyn and Derek are enjoying the final days of their honeymoon in Paris. As they're browsing the book stalls along the river, they bump into an old friend from Derek's spy days, Ned, and Brooklyn finds the perfect gift for Derek, an old first edition copy of a James Bond novel, The Spy Who Loved Me. Once they're back home in San Francisco, they visit a spy shop Ned told them about. Owen, the owner, is thrilled to see his old buddy Derek. Brooklyn tells Owen about the spy novel she found in Paris and Owen begs them to let him display the book as part of the shop's first anniversary celebration. Brooklyn is hesitant--she's shocked to find that the book is valuable!--so before agreeing, Derek checks out Owen's security system and finds it acceptable. Derek is dismayed when he receives a mysterious letter from Paris announcing the death of Ned. Then late one night, someone is killed inside the spy shop. Is the writer's murder connected to Brooklyn's valuable book? Is there something even more sinister afoot? The police are called in, but Owen begs Derek to look into it as well. Little do Brooklyn and Derek realize how deeply they will have to delve into Derek's past in order to unmask an enemy who's been waiting for the chance to destroy everything they hold dear.

Number 13 in the series and I thoroughly enjoy both the characters and the mystery that the author cooks up each time. This story included escape rooms which were fun to figure out the clues along with the actual mystery. Fun read but would recommend reading this series in order. #cozynumber13ofthemonth #cozyinthesun

Librarybelle Such a neat addition with escape rooms into the story! 4y

Is this actually a thing? Podcasts on “rare books and ephemera, book collecting, [...] book crimes and rip-offs”? I need those in my life.

My pretty girl with a pretty book. Another great read in the bibliophile mystery series. While the author isn‘t subtle with the bad guys, I still enjoyed the story. The appreciation of books is very comforting.

I generally like this series with Brooklyn, the book restorer, but, omg, she and Derek are extremely annoying in this book! They just got back from their honeymoon and their lovey-doveyness is just too much. The mystery is not that interesting either. I seem to be in the minority here though; it has mostly 4 & 5 star reviews on Goodreads.

I didn‘t listen to any books on my walk today because my son went with me, but this is the one I started last night. I didn‘t even know there was a new Brooklyn book out until I ran across it on Hoopla.

A good #cozymystery and a nice entry to the series. This one focuses a little more on Brooklyn and Derek with less of the large cast of secondary characters. The murder doesn't happen until well into the book but it is well done and there were some great red herrings to keep you guessing.

I have a soft spot for this bookish series from Kate Carlisle, mostly because I enjoy the occupation of main character Brooklyn, who is a book restorer. Set in San Francisco, the series follows Brooklyn & her ex-spy husband as they solve murder mysteries. In this entry, Brooklyn and Derek are caught up in some loose ends of an old spy escapade that involved some of Derek's oldest friends and a valuable first edition Ian Fleming book. Out in June.

Eyelit Ooh, I started this series forever ago and then got frustrated that there were only 3 available at the time... I should make my way back. I loved how the character talked a lot about her book restoration projects! 6y

This is, hands down, my favourite cozy series of all time! Every book, I rush through; I love their quirky families & friends, Dharma, all the little details like what they eat, & everything about bookbinding.

This was different from the others though, having only visit Dharma once for the day. And while some of the family was mentioned, they mostly didn‘t factor in to this story. It was great to learn a bit more about Derek & his employees.
