Such a funny, clever book. I really enjoyed this middle grade sci-fi novel.
Earth is inhabitable and the humans are stuck on Mars. They get invited to a planet that they have to go into stasis for 20 years. When they get there, the planet no longer wants them. So they have to convince the government to let the humans to stay!

A truly incredible middle grade about a boy and his family trying to prove the human race deserves a second chance on an alien (and not altogether friendly) planet. Cute, heartfelt, funny, and in addition to all the great sci-fi elements it has important parallels both to immigration / refugee issues as well as environmental custodianship and nonviolence. Maybe my new favorite middle grade book!
I really liked this middle grade novels about humans searching for a place to live after they have destroyed Earth. They discover a planet that invites them in as refugees, only to arrive and find the government has changed its mind and they have no where else to go. It draws a lot of parallels to current events, in a way that is accessible to middle grade readers.
On one level, this is a fun MG book about the remnants of humanity fleeing a nuclear ravaged (& uninhabitable) Earth in search of a new home. On a much deeper level, it is about the Other, immigration & its causes, cultural exchange, acceptance, diversity, war, prejudice, & the importance of finding common ground & building on it. Are kids going to read it at that deeper level? Probably not—they‘ll laugh at the humor—but adults will.
😂
When aliens & humans plot secret things about tv shows...
Trust me, it‘s a thing...at least in this book it is...
Going back to middle grade for my next preview. Cover is pretty fabulous—dedication is even better.
