Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and | Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Creativity is about capturing those moments that make life worth living. The author's objective is to offer an understanding of what leads to these moments, be it the excitement of the artist at the easel or the scientist in the lab, so that knowledge can be used to enrich people's lives. Drawing on 100 interviews with exceptional people, from biologists and physicists to politicians and business leaders, poets and artists, as well as his 30 years of research on the subject, Csikszentmihalyi uses his famous theory to explore the creative process. He discusses such ideas as why creative individuals are often seen as selfish and arrogant, and why the tortured genius is largely a myth. Most important, he clearly explains why creativity needs to be cultivated and is necessary for the future of our country, if not the world.

IMHO, each person has a gift, a creative flow , that supersedes any disability or weakness we feel that we have. In all my years of teaching/counseling I have observed students finding their gift, amid any and all diagnoses or labeling that is thrust upon them. May we acknowledge and nurture their creativity--focus on that instead of their obstacles. Grateful for teachers who can align with that.

alisiakae I took the VIA survey of signature strengths a few months ago, and gratitude and creativity were ranked side by side for me, somewhere in the middle (my top strengths were love of learning and bravery). 6y
EadieB @4thhouseontheleft That‘s interesting! I‘m not creative at all but I do have other good qualities! 6y
alisiakae @EadieB I‘ve learned to think of creativity in a new way. I am not talented in the arts, or crafts, but creativity is also about not being content to do things the conventional way. And that is definitely me! 6y
EadieB @4thhouseontheleft I agree! Creativity can be found in many areas and not necessarily with arts and crafts. What I am doing here with these daily words is helping my creativity because I can feel myself stretching. It‘s not so bad when you have the proper tools. 6y
