So this is basically glorious. It‘s funny and farcical and full of musician in jokes. I read it, went straight on to the next one and then pre-ordered the third. I don‘t know how it would all land with someone who has never played an instrument or in an orchestra but for this person who has, it was wonderful. And my parents have loved it too

Well I finished it, and it got three stars on my reviews. The author is obviously passionate and very knowledgable about music, but the focus on the music facts and generalisations got rather in the way of the plot and character development.

Would like to be enjoying this but:
1. I hate the cover. When you feel like you could knock up something more accomplished on canva that is not good.
2. This is NOT a mystery. It's a lighthearted book about an orchestra.
3. If I have to read one more in depth analysis of a piece of music or generalisation about a musician I may throw my kindle across the room.
4. The plot is both non existent and glacial.
5. There is no character development.
