I think that the book is so fun for younger students because it is so silly and quick. It is a good quick attention grabber book.

The author uses a short variation on words to get his story across. Although its not real words he uses it to tell a story that makes sense. The colors the authors use are bright and powerful and make this a silly fun book.

I love how 90s the illustrations are! I also really like the book for the simplicity, and that goes for the illustrations as well!

This book is very different from any I‘ve read. There‘s barely any words, but what words are there do tell a good story about friendship and making friends. I love how simple this book is written! It‘s fun and does actually teach kids a lesson!

This RF caldecott award winning book is PR. Since it is about two strangers who meet and one finds out the other has no friends and decides to make him his friend, it is great to have students make a friend through a partner read. You can also play this song that goes along with the reading of the book: https://youtu.be/SjjR6snoQN8. You can also find more about the author at https://www.simonandschuster.com/authors/Chris-Raschka/1786251

KatiaP The ESOL standard I would use is 6 continually monitor students comprehension. This book has very simple words so it is great for an ESOL student and you can easily stop to check for understanding. The UDL principle I would use is 2.5 illustrate though multiple media by using the song to teach about the book. #UCFLAE3414SP20 5y
DrSpalding Another award winner and excellent resource. You should always continuously check for understanding. Nice English learner alignment. 5y

This book, a Caldecott Honor book, is about a lonely guy talking to another guy to ultimately become friends.

I would not use this book in my classroom for a lesson, but more as a fun read, because it did not have much of a dialogue, maybe it can be a good book for the children themselves to start trying to read with the limited vocabulary.

I would read this book to young children because it teaches them that it doesn't take much to be someone's friend

This would be a good book for younger children. The actual story is short and sweet and the pictures are bright colors. However, I think it could be a little too short and to the point.

Yo! Yes? was written by Christopher Raschka in 1993. This book was overall one of my top favorites! It provides a great example of diversity by using an African American character and a Caucasian one as well! I definitely will incorporate this into my classroom !

I enjoy the message this book conveys about never being too quick to judge others but I didn't like how there was little to no dialogue. I wouldn't really see the use of this book in my classroom. Maybe to show diversity in friendships?

This is more of a fun read and probably not used to read out loud, but for kids to read on their own.

Caldecott Honor Book. This was a wonderfully written book about two people that meet each other and become friends. This book is a very fast paced easy read. The illustrations are simple, but having plenty of meaning behind them.

Yo! Yes? By Chris Raschka, 1993. Caldecott Honor. I was very curious about this book. Looking at the front cover I did not know what to expect. I like the large font and simple pictures. Everything in this book is large. It starts off sad but then ends happy with the boys becoming friends.

I liked this part when they are saying they can be friends with each other! It‘s cool you can use body language and facial expressions to tell your feelings.

Happy ending but a little confusion throughout on what the main idea of the story was. Easy read for young kids and enjoyable illustrations.

Yo! Yes? was written by Chris Raschka and won a Caldecott Honor award in 1994. The illustrations are very basic but creative! Two young boys go back and forth having a conversation with one word answers or short phrases. They end up becoming friends and getting along!
