Blood Oath | Linda Fairstein
10 posts | 7 read | 2 to read
New York Times bestselling author Linda Fairstein returns with a timely, captivating thriller about the deep--and often deadly--reverberations of past sins. Linda Fairstein is the queen of intelligent suspense, cleverly interweaving shocking crimes with the hidden, often dark history of New York City locales. In her latest novel, Linda tackles both the first biomedical research center in the United States and the #MeToo movement, as Alex Cooper takes on the case of a young woman who testified years earlier at a landmark Federal trial . . . and now reveals that she was sexually assaulted by a prominent law enforcement official during that time. As the case grows more complex, Alex, along with NYPD detectives Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace, find themselves in uncharted territory within Manhattan's Rockefeller University, a research institute born of tragedy that has evolved into a premier scientific facility, hospital, and cornerstone of higher learning. But when dark secrets of the century-old institution intersect with life-threatening events, the experience may just help determine whether Alex will keep her job, or throw her hat in the ring to become the next district attorney of New York County . . . if she can survive that long.

This was a good mystery where prosecutor Alex Cooper needs to look carefully at those in the legal establishment for her murderer. While the mode of death seemed a bit far-fetched, it was still entertaining. Alex's relationship seems to have settled and I'm happy to avoid all the man drama.

It‘s 5.30am Sunday here in Sydney but I‘m still plodding on! #Bk4 is finished for the #24in48 #readathon The 20th book in the ADA Alex Cooper series by Fairstein, a former prosecutor in the Sex Crimes Unit in Manhattan, it wasn‘t the best she‘s written but still a solid page turner. Though I‘d guessed the ending by the halfway mark!👩🏼‍⚖️👮🏻‍♂️ Debating whether to get some sleep or kick on till I drop🤔

Reagan Wow! Halfway there! Good job! 5y

#Stack2 My 2nd #stack for the #24in48 #readathon is another mixture. There‘s a diverse middle grade graphic novel, a memoir, a crime novel & a witchy tale about a group of students. My #TBRcart has plenty more where they come from, I think I can make a different stack for each hour of the readathon & not double up on books! I should do a #BeforeLitsyAfterLitsy photo of my library, then you‘ll know why the hubby calls it my #bookfort now📚🏗📚

I‘m glad her publisher has dropped her. There are consequences to such actions. https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/central-park-five-linda-fairstein-prosecutor-dr....

melissajayne I don‘t generally cheer when this happens but honestly they shouldn‘t have signed her in the first place. 6y

Awesome book. Alex Cooper is back after a traumatic period and ready to hit the ground running. A touchy case lands in her lap right away. While navigating this a dear friend is hospitalized. Non stop plot and great supporting characters. 💜💜💜 Book#30 of 2019

What felt a bit like a return to form on this, Cooper‘s 20th outing. Less@personal nonsense and a good solid case or two rooted firmly in #metoo territory. I respect Fairsteins‘s background in working with victims of violent crime and sexual assault and I think she always covers the crimes with compassion vs titilation. This lived up to that!

MicheleinPhilly There are 20 books in this series?? 😮 6y
Itchyfeetreader Yup they have a slightly weird chronology now but if you skip past that then all good! @MicheleinPhilly (edited) 6y
