From the author of A Secret History of Witches comes a new standalone novel set in the same world: an absorbing tale of love, sacrifice, family ties, and magic, set in the US in the aftermath of World War II. Perfect for fans of A Discovery of Witches, Outlander and Nora Roberts. Barrie Anne Blythe and her Aunt Charlotte have always known that the other residents of their small coastal community find them peculiar - two women living alone on the outskirts of town. It is the price of concealing their strange and dangerous family secret. But two events threaten to upend their lives for ever. The first is the arrival of a mysterious abandoned baby with a hint of power like their own. The second is the sudden reappearance of Barrie Anne's long-lost husband - who is not quite the man she thought she married. Together, Barrie Anne and Charlotte must decide how far they are willing to go to protect themselves - and the child they think of as their own - from suspicious neighbours, the government and even their own family . . . Praise for Louisa Morgan: 'A deeply satisfying and magical work of great craft' Carol Goodman, author of Incubus 'Deftly captures the greatest magic of all: the love between mothers and daughters' Jordanna Max Brodsky 'Enthralling . . . Deeply moving and richly conceived' Kay Kenyon 'I loved it. A beautiful generational tale, reminiscent of Practical Magic . . . Grounded and real, painful and hopeful at the same time' Laure Eve 'Epic in scope and heartbreakingly tender . . . Recommended for fans of Nora Roberts' Booklist

It was a slow start, but the characters made living in WWII an art form. Post WW2, Barrie Ann Blythe finds herself lonely yet independent from her estranged husband. As she walks with her dog one morning, she makes a discovery. Soon Barrie Ann finds help and guidance from her queer artist Aunt. I recommend this book!

Loved Louisa Morgan's first witchy book and thought this one from my shelf might be a good way to kick off fall.

This was an interesting book though not my favorite. I really enjoyed that it was set in Port Townsend, WA. And we all know how much I love the ocean, so any mention of water makes me happy. I just had such high expectations after A History of Witches.

The plot was interesting and the story held my attention rather well. It was just different.

I would recommend this book for anyone interested in 1940's era fiction.

📖📚Happy Reading📚📖

The story on this one didn‘t click for me...it was not nearly as witchy as I would have liked, and some aspects of it felt like absurd curve balls. But, I do like Louis Morgan‘s writing style, and that helped me get through this easily despite my disappointment in the plot.

A domestic suspense focusing on family bonds and relationships through our lives with a little splash of supernatural. An amazing novel and perfect to transition from summer to fall with!

I enjoyed this very much, but there were story strands I wished were explored more - although that would have changed the book‘s direction. This would be a good book group pick.

This magical story has an undercurrent of the power of women or "girl-power" as my generation used to say. Small cast or characters with the focus on just three people, but each is different and interesting. I'm impressed by this author and plan to see what else she has written.

Enjoying this impulse buy, listening to the rain outside. Mondays are Mr. JSW‘s D&D nights, so I get the house and the comfy blanket and the couch to myself. ❤️

5🌟 I LOVED this book. Louisa Morgan knows how to weave a tale. Her attention to detail and description was impressive. This story focuses on Barrie Anne and her Aunt Charlotte. The women and only the women in their family have a gift for premonition. Their story takes place in the late 1940's post WWII. But the story jumps back and forth between post war and during the war. Was approved this ARC from Netgalley. Started it and am not really sure how I feel about it yet. Any one have any thoughts on this one?
