The Victim
The Victim: Faber Stories | P. D. James
4 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
'On the whole, it was easier than I had expected. Only once did I feel myself at risk. That was when the Inspector suddenly intervened. He said in a harsh voice: "He married your wife, didn't he? Took her away from you some people might say. Nice piece of goods, too, by the look of her. Didn't you feel any grievance?" I had been expecting this question. I knew exactly what I would say.' The late, great P. D. James takes us inside the mind of a murderer.

Liked the twist, and completes the #mmdchallenge of 3 books by the same author.

Also qualifies as an #impulseread and completes #lessthan250pages for the book bingo #readnosedreindeer #wintergames @Clwojick @StayCurious

I‘m going through these Faber 20 stories too quickly! I finished this Sylvia Plath and a P.D. James while enjoying a cappuccino at a local cafe. I only have 5 more to go and I‘m a little sad about it. It‘s been such a revelatory experience to try my hand at so many short stories and authors without a big commitment. It‘s completely changed my outlook toward short stories.

LeahBergen This is one ☝️ I‘m so looking forward to! 6y
merelybookish So cool when our reading lives expands. It's been fun hearing about your experience! 6y
HardcoverHearts @LeahBergen - It was literally my first PD James. I have read some mixed reviews but I had no expectations. I enjoyed it. 6y
HardcoverHearts @merelybookish I seriously thought I just hated short stories. I‘m so happy! 🥰 6y

I love the look of this little series from Faber. Not sure on the decision as to which short stories to include though. This was OK. A very quick read that never really moved beyond formulaic.

I expected better from PD James, one of my favorite authors. I‘m surprised this was the story picked to be published separately. #2019
