This is basically an retelling of Jane Eyre but there‘s a couple twists to it you wouldn‘t expect. It takes place in 1686 Iceland and Rosa marries and has to move to a different town to be with her husband. Not only does her husband act strange and cold, the town is superstitious and wary of her and witchcraft. There are noises in their home and rooms and outbuildings that are locked. The question is why?

This nordic tale of love, deceit, and murder got off to a slow start for me. That said, once the action got going I could not put it down. A great winter read!! 4 🌟

I found an author I want to follow and read more of her work. This novel is stunning, taking place in Iceland part suspense and part romance. I loved the romance all the way to the end. The ending is the type that is open ended, the kind you can make it what you want depending on how you interpret the story.

I‘m really into atmospheric, gothic books at the mo & this certainly ticks that box! Set in Iceland in 1686, the whole plot of a young wife being haunted by her aloof husband‘s ex feels like it‘s been done to death and the plot really sags in the middle. (She takes the gloomy atmosphere to an all new depressing level!) But the last third, is brilliant so overall a good read.

1685-86, #Iceland. To save her sick mother, Rosa marries a trader who lives days away but who promises to send food & other necessities to her mother. The trader terrifies Rosa, & she‘s convinced his 1st wife haunts her (this part feels very Rebecca-like). A slow tale with its infuriating characters surprisingly becomes a thriller. All is not what it seems, & as you learn more, your own feelings start rearranging themselves. Extraordinary. ⬇️

Escape into 17th century Iceland. She creates an atmosphere which struck me as both terrible and dazzling. Gripping plot. Fits well into ‘gothic‘ October vibe. 🎃#october #iceland #historicalnovel #womeniniceland #gyrfalcon

I find the husband unbearable and his obsession with a woman's/wife's obedience is giving me an angry tic at this point. Unless something drastically changes, I'm rooting for the childhood friend for a romance and not this damn husband.

Set in Iceland in the 17th century, it tells the tale of a young woman called Rosa who marries Jon. Jon is not what he seems as there are rumors about how his first wife Anna died. Rosa is lonely and wants to meet to the villagers, but Jon forbids this to happen. She has maintain their household and not to enter the attic.

There is lots going on, there are Rebecca and Jane Eyre vibes here! #mysterybooks

The Glass Woman is filled with tension. The setting..blizzards, windswept landscapes, remote villages..will slowly creep on you. Set in 1686 #Iceland , when the people still hold on to their beliefs of the sagas, this story of superstition, love, and survival is atmospheric and haunting. Overall I enjoyed it, and was surprised by the twists.

Island 1686:

I really enjoyed this Gothic-like story set in 1689 Iceland. Following her father‘s death, Rosa is forced to marry and move away from home so that she and her mother will not freeze or starve during the coming winter. Rumors abound about the fate of her new husband‘s first wife and the strange man who works for him. The author did a great job of sustaining tension throughout and audiobook narration was very good. 4.5⭐️ Available on #Hoopla

Review: The Glass Woman is an extremely surprising read for me. I did not know exactly what I was getting into. I had recently finished Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. I loved that book so much. I thought another book set in Iceland in the 19th century, I am in. This book was just as atmospheric as Burial Rites, which I loved.

Truly, this is my kind of thriller, set with the rich history of a time and culture long past. The story is woven so delicately, without gory detail or cheap tricks. The romance (which I will leave a mystery for you all!) is hinted at in a really poetic way. Once I got into this book I absolutely couldn‘t put it down. 4 / 5

Really good one! Lots of foreboding and atmosphere. A tension filled thrilling ending. I shed a tear even at the end, which I thought was quite beautiful, but I won't say for whom I shed that tear. Might give too much away. 👍

I wasnt sure what I was expecting in this story but it wasnt this. Not that I'm saying it was bad, in fact it was really good, the story had so many layers that i just wasnt expecting. It's a slow burning story but it pulls you in and doesn't let go until the very last page. Theres much drama and some very clever twists that really add to the story. The ending was perfect and yet sad at the same time.

I was unsure about this one at first. It‘s definitely a slow starter but things gradually build into a stunning conclusion. Whilst reading it, it did remind me of Bluebeard at times. Overall it was very atmospheric & worth persevering with. 4🌟
