What an unusual, nuanced graphic novel. There‘s nothing juvenile or simple about this story. No easy morals or cliches. It‘s a story about a teenager named Harriet whose family has just moved, and how she spends the days while her parents are working multiple jobs. The circumstances are revealed slowly and even at the end there is a lot that isn‘t spelled out. I would recommend this for adults as well as teens. Very thought provoking.

This was a cute story of a girl moving to Chicago to be close to doctors to help her with her MS.
In the author's notes, I was reading how Nicholas was supposed to have polio.I must have missed something as I didn't pick this up reading, but some of the scenes make more sense now knowing this. Will middle schoolers pick up on this? I think not, they probably won't know what polio is.

LibrarianRyan Sounds odd 4y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! Polio does seem like a strange choice - it feels like a disease that isn't very common now so I'm not sure children would connect with it. 4y
Sarahreadstoomuch That does sound odd.. and if you didn‘t pick up on it, I doubt a younger reader would. 4y

Harriet is an imaginative 13 year old living with a chronic illness. She had few friends before her family moved closer to medical professionals specializing in MS, and hasn't had a chance to make new ones yet. Fortunately, the retired librarian downstairs is determined to connect with her through books and writing. This comic tells a beautiful story of connecting with others through lived experiences. #Comic #ChronicIllness #Multiplesclerosis

Harriet has all the normal preteen friend and family problems as well as an active imagination and a relapse of her MS after a move to a new city in this graphic novel available on #Hoopla.
The author did an excellent job portraying the challenges and emotions of the disability while also allowing the MC to be a kid with all the regular stuff that comes with that.

I‘m not a graphic novel fan but apparently got this for partner who is. She didn‘t like it so I read it as I usually like things she doesn‘t . However this book is just ok. Trying to think who I can give it to. Not sure the young people I know would want to read it. Turns out Harriet has MS , has moved I‘m guessing to be near specialists though this is not said. I found the authors note the most interesting part .

This is a very sweet middle grade graphic novel about a girl with MS forced to live life through her big imagination when she really wants to just be a regular teen.
The author tries to do a few things she doesn‘t quite accomplish here, but all in all I really enjoyed this. The artwork is spot on, and the message is so positive.
