Echo Killing: A Mystery
Echo Killing: A Mystery | Christi Daugherty
When a murder echoing a fifteen-year-old cold case rocks the Southern town of Savannah, crime reporter Harper McClain risks everything to find the identity of this calculated killer in Christi Daugherty's new novel The Echo Killing.A city of antebellum architecture, picturesque parks, and cobblestone streets, Savannah moves at a graceful pace. But for Harper McClain, the timeless beauty and culture that distinguishes her home's Southern heritage vanishes during the dark and dangerous nights. She wouldn't have it any other way. Not even finding her mother brutally murdered in their home when she was twelve has made her love Savannah any less. Her mother's killer was never found, and that unsolved murder left Harper with an obsession that drove her to become one of the best crime reporters in the state of Georgia. She spends her nights with the police, searching for criminals. Her latest investigation takes her to the scene of a homicide where the details are hauntingly familiar: a young girl being led from the scene by a detective, a female victim naked and stabbed multiple times in the kitchen, and no traces of any evidence pointing towards a suspect. Harper has seen all of this before in her own life. The similarities between the murder of Marie Whitney and her own mother's death lead her to believe they're both victims of the same killer. At last, she has the chance to find the murderer who's eluded justice for fifteen years and make sure another little girl isn't forever haunted by a senseless act of violence--even if it puts Harper in the killer's cross-hairs...

Giveaway 💚

It's the first in a series about a journalist who was traumatized by her mother's unsolved murder as a child. She comes across a recent case that has similar details to her mother's case and becomes obsessed tracking down the killer.

Mehso-so

This was my local bookclub's pick this month. It ended up just being a so-so for me.

The book is written well. The story follows a journalist who experienced a horrific act as a child, who now as an adult is having to relive the past to find answers.

There weren't many twists and the mystery is easy to figure out. This is also the first in a series.

If you enjoy typical, fast read mystery novels, you'd probably like this one more than I did.

Finished this audiobook out on my run today. I thought the narrator was lackadaisical but it didn‘t ruin the book for me. It was a slow start and I kinda figured out The Who pretty quick but I will definitely recommend it to people. 👍🤗

MicheleinPhilly It is 72 degrees and breezy with low humidity. I‘m sitting in the dog park with Pickles right now and seriously considering playing hooky. 6y
eanderson @MicheleinPhilly that would be very hard to not do today! Did you end up playing hooky? 6y

I absolutely loved this book. I would love if the author made a series with the main reporter and detective characters.

Mehso-so

Bestselling YA author Christi Daugherty‘s debut adult thriller is a solid affair that uses her own experience as a crime reporter, creates a convincing newsroom and sets up an interesting sequel but I thought that the main plot took too long to get going while a romance element seemed redundant and Harper‘s bridge burning with friends and colleagues was a little contrived but none of this would stop me from reading on.

Harper‘s mother died years ago but now there is a new murder that looks exactly like her mother‘s death. Harper investigates and makes some people upset in the process.

Today #inmyears (I literally chose this just bc of the cover)

Logcabingal Please let me know what you think, it looks interesting and I love suspense! 7y
Matilda @Logcabingal I'd call it a mystery not so much suspense. It's fine as a mystery, I love journalist MCs, and she has a traumatic past that she thinks may be connected to a new murder. What didn't work for me was the "bitch slut" type portrayal that is not explored past "bitch slut" and the setting has black gangs in the background the whole time that is never explored beyond comments made by police which made me uncomfortable in its portrayal. 7y
Logcabingal @maltida thanks so much for the review, I will probably skip this book after reading this past few reviews. Must go explore other good suspense reads 😊 thanks again 😘 7y

I completely enjoyed this crime thriller set in #SavannahGA - it‘s fast-paced, fun to read and lays a great foundation for more books to come in the series! If you are looking for a one-sitting read, I suggest you pick this one up on Tuesday! #Thriller/CrimeShelfie #MarchMadness @josteele

In Atlanta today with my son, who is auditioning for the KSU Dance program. I‘m too nervous to read 🤞

cathysaid Yay! I work at KSU! I've had students in the Dance Program and they love it. 7y
Kappadeemom Oh good! Well, fingers crossed. Auditions started at 2:00, so I am going to take a run around campus and then find a spot to read. It‘s a lot prettier here than in Valdosta :) 7y
rustoryhuf Good luck to your son! Georgia College has a dance program as well. 7y
