From earlier this week. WWII historical fiction is my jam & I enjoyed this YA novel set in San Fran & the Manzanar Relocation Center. Italian-American Evaline's relationship with Japanese-American Taichi was difficult enough before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor & now with his family sent to Manzanar, it seems impossible. Our Sunday evening, a very sleepy kitty naps while his mom reads the book for an upcoming book tour & tries not to disturb him. 🐱💤Tomorrow won't be a fun day for Max 🐱as the noisy roofers are back & I have to go to work really early to work for a bit & go to meetings, but I hope to be back to be with him after lunch so he doesn't spend all day under the bed. 🙀

Max 🐱liked that I worked from home today. He didn't like the noise from the roofers replacing my roof. 🙀(Neither did I!) 😱 When they finally left for the weekend, we stopped working & snuck a reading break in. One of my current reads that I'm just starting for a book tour review next week.

Life is difficult at Manzanar Relocation Center is difficult due to degrading treatment. Taichi‘s only connection to the outside world is the letters he gets from Evalina. Evalina feels the only action she can take us to speak out against the injustices. She becomes more and more vocal at home and at school. Inside Manzanar fighting between different Japanese American factions arises. Leaving Taichi to worry that he may not leave the camp alive.

My current read is breaking my heart. An upcoming YA about an Italian-American girl who falls in love with the son of Japanese immigrants during WWII. The Japanese Internment camp scenes are hard to read, but an important part of our history that is timely today.
