69/150 Elizabeth I was an amazing woman, shrewd politician and cunning leader, she steered England back to Protestantism after it was forced to accept Catholicism under her sister Mary I, not to be confused with Mary Queen of Scots. The story of Elizabeth I reign is fascinating, she was always underestimated because she was after all "just a woman" only good for marrying off and producing royal offspring. RamsFan1963 The fact that she stayed both unmarried and virginal in that time and place, is pretty astounding in itself. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2nd book finished for #JubilantJuly @Andrew65 1y
Andrew65 Not aware of this one but sounds right up my street. Stacked. Well done 👏👏👏 1y
RamsFan1963 @Andrew65 Someone, and it might have been you, mentioned a book about Elizabeth I called Pirate Queen. I want to read that one, I think Elizabeth I is pretty amazing. 1y
Andrew65 @RamsFan1963 That‘s a new book, so it wasn‘t me. She was one impressive Queen / Lady. 1y

The Tudors are my least favourite historical period - but I can spare some time for Elizabeth (and her Mum) - this looks like an interesting read.

Cinfhen It does!!! I‘m just not ready to open the floodgates to all the English drama 😂 6y
Cathythoughts Amazing cover 👍🏻❤️❤️ 6y
Quirkybookworm I have no respect for any of them including Elizabeth I who did nothing to stop the persecutions. I recently discovered that 5 of my ancestors were either beheheaded/jailed. During those times. 6y

Susannah I have to ask: What is your favorite historical period? 6y
TrishB @Cinfhen and there is plenty of that! 6y
TrishB @Quirkybookworm wow 😮 that‘s something to find out! To be fair religious persecution is still rife 😔 6y
Billypar The cover does a good job of capturing the contrast between civility and brutality that was common in rulers of the period- sounds like a great read! 6y
TrishB @Susannah I like ‘medieval‘ in the very broadest sense - 1066-1485! But can be persuaded from either of those! 6y
DGRachel The Tudors aren‘t my favorite either, but give me all the Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Richard the Lionheart books, please. 😍😂😂 6y
TrishB @DGRachel exactly!! 6y
