Read this for the book club of students where I teach. A young man is in prison, wrongfully, for killing his teacher and another boy. While in prison, John can leave his body, like smoke, when sleeping, and he leaves the prison finding out information for the inmates inside. He finds out information about what REALLY happened to him to put him in jail, and mystery ensues as he tries to right the wrongs that have been done to him. 🌟🌟🌟.5

Not only am I loving Holding Smoke but so is the puppy! Holy buns guys.... this book is amazing. So so so good, I'm beyond happy to be reading @ellecosimano writing because she is an all-time favorite author of mine. Her first book "Nearly Gone" is one of my number ones. I really recommend her books because her stories are so tension-filled and mysterious.

Great mystery-thriller story with a little paranormal.

John "Smoke" Conlan is a great character who hasn't had an easy life. I really enjoyed reading his POV. The mystery and paranormal parts of the story kept me hooked and I couldn't put the book down.

This book hurt me to read. It hit me in places that remind me of my time in the kids' dept. and at one point, I had to put the book down b/c I was in public and started to cry. It's a YA thriller/mystery w/ some sci-fi thrown in. Seems like a mess but it worked. Strong writing, believable characters

texerin I'm not much into sci-fi. Neither are you. If it worked for you, I know I can give it a try. 9y
