I never quite got really invested in this book. The ghostly aspect of the story is what initially intrigued me but there was too much indecisiveness about whether there was actually a connection with the spirit world or not to keep me hooked. There were a number of twists and turns which just felt contrived to me (complete 180s) and failed to add any suspense to the story. It‘s a shame because I had been looking forward to reading this.

I‘ve read quite a few by Mark Edwards now and I‘ve enjoyed all of them. I really enjoyed The retreat, kept me wanting to read more and more with each page. Just started in her shadow. Anyone else read it or currently reading it? #thriller #reading #books

There is so much tension in the story, with possible ghosts and murder, you wonder what‘s going to happen. Real fear for Livvy and Jessica and plenty of suspects keep you on the edge.....Mark Edwards has created a nerve wracking, real psychological thriller. Well written and clever, I loved every minute..
