Oh I loved this story. I didn‘t think I would and it‘s not the normal thing I read, but I really fell in love with it.

This is a novella to accompany Leaving Time which I read several years ago and absolutely loved! While good, it lacked most of what I enjoyed about the novel. There was nothing uplifting, no message of hope, it was informative and well written but ultimately a downer.
My love for Africa and wildlife comes together in this novella, and once we can visit libraries again I will get the book with the same main character. Alice is researching elephant memory in Botswana. She has a complicated family background and a bad recent experience in a game reserve in SA. This time she takes an ellie baby inside her hut... I read this book a few years ago but decided to reread it today. The story about the plight of elephants in Africa was beautifully written and offered a tender tale about the bond between mother and child (via the relationship between elephants.) Typically I do enjoy Picoult‘s work, but this one holds a special place in my heart. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Finally got a Bingo!! I've been so close forever, but I just read books randomly and hope they fit one of my categories eventually. I'm going to have to start being deliberate for the rest of them. #litsyreadingchallenge #bingo
Even in a short novella, Picoult still knows how to gut you and give you full-fledged characters with complex emotions. This is a beautiful story, and I can't wait to read LEAVING TIME to get more background. I loved Picoult's comparisons between the elephants and human connections. A Jodi Picoult novel was my first "adult" read, and 12 years later, she is still one of my favorite authors.
A prequel to Leaving Time, this story functions as a formidable stand-alone as well.
One of my favorite books of all time! The bond between mother and daughter is amazing and cannot be explained. But boy, did Jodi Picoult do a great job trying to explain it!
