Warning time! I‘m attempting to work through @LibrarianRyan ‘s #BBRC prompts. The theme this year is celebrity authors, and we‘re starting with at least 16 picture books! I promise, this will be more painful for me than it is for you, but if it‘s what the kids are reading (and it is…) Obvs, I should stop being a library snob and read them. Yay!

Bear 🙂 Mischievous bear cub causes mayhem, making other animals jump, as they prepare to be on TV.

rockpools Would be fun to read to a group (BOO!), but the fuss about FAME, being on tv, making themselves beautiful is a bit ick for preschoolers. Cute/fun illustrations by Tony Ross.

Hippo 🫤 Dream big, trample people, become famous. I mean, it has a farting hippo called Sheila, but otherwise I don‘t really see the appeal of this one.

Full confession. I‘m not a DW fan. Was kind of hoping these would prove me wrong. They haven‘t.

LibrarianRyan Okay now you have me asking who is DW? 2w
rockpools @LibrarianRyan David Walliams? (The fact you‘re asking makes me quite relieved!) Comedian (Little Britain), Britain‘s Got Talent judge, depressingly one of UK‘s most borrowed authors. Regularly faces criticisms of fat-shaming, ageism and casual racism/stereotyping in his middle grade books. HUGELY popular children‘s author here. 2w
LibrarianRyan @rockpools I knew he had written lots of kids books. I didn‘t realize he was a celebrity otherwise. Doesn‘t sound like a nice person 2w
rockpools @LibrarianRyan That makes sense - I guess the celebrity bit didn‘t cross the pond. Next time one of his books passes your desk, have a flick through. 2w

Likely to be plenty of humour in this one if David Williams write it. Also loved the illustrations of Tony Ross.
