Jerusalem
Jerusalem | Alan W. Moore
3 posts | 1 read | 4 to read
Alan Moore - creator of Watchmen, From Hell, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Lost Girls and V for Vendetta ' pens a grandiose tome about his hometown of Northampton, employing an extremely wide variety of styles, including a poem and a play. Fierce in its imagining and stupefying in its scope, Jerusalem is the tale of everything, told from a vanished gutter.

Pickpick

Whopping 1,400 page novel set mainly in Northampton when it isn't dealing with the exploits of angels, ghosts and demons in the afterlife. Very readable despite the length, and even the Finnegans Wake pastiche is comprehensible with a bit of effort. Amazing.

vivastory I've had this in the 3 vol. set since it was released. I need to read it 😅 2y
RebL Yikes! That's a chunkster! 2y

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it—I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me—I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want. This is day 6! #bookstoread #tbrpile

TobeyTheScavengerMonk This is one of those books that cold logic tells me I am never going to read, but I can‘t help but think “One day...” 5y
CindyMyLifeIsLit @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I started it and got a few chapters in before realizing that this book was going to require close attention and flipping back to previous passages. I‘m fine with that, but not on a Kindle! So I put it aside until I had a paper copy. I finally got one, and now just need time to read it . . . 😒 5y

Hubby‘s current read (on left), my current read (on right). The couple that reads giant 1,000-page books together stays together. Mostly because nobody else will carry the book bag. 😀📚

Tanisha_A Hahahahaha, just perfect! 5y
cherinium Love it! I am a fan of a big, fat book as well! 5y
Amiable @cherinium I've always been a fan of the fat books you can sink into for days. But ever since Goodreads started their yearly book challenge, I find myself reaching past the chunksters to grab the short books so I can hit a higher annual total. Which is dumb since I'm the one who sets the total! This year, though, I'm trying to up my page counts instead of my book total. So I'm trying to read as many books that are 500 pages or more as I can! 5y
cherinium @Amiable That's a great idea. I often feel like I'm cheating if I read a really short book and count it toward my total. 5y
