This is well written, as she‘s a good writer, but the family dynamics were challenging and I was frustrated by the, obviously normal for the time, terrible patriarchal nuclear family. Her dad sounded terrible.

This was not an easy read emotionally, but it propelled me right along. Hay‘s mother reminded me of my grandma. Oof.
This was a well written and painfully honest account of the complex relationships in the author‘s family. How the people you love the most can also hurt you and drain you the most. I‘m sure most reader‘s will see some aspect of their own family in the pages. Although it is well done, it is also a very somber read and I was glad to reach the end. The tone was depressing. 🤦♀️
I loved this memoir. The story of family, complicated relationships, and the way our roles change from child to adult, caring for aging parents as their health declines physically and mentally.
Finished this book. I cried with such emotion. Such a devastating affliction - dementia. I hope to meet Elizabeth Hay at Read By the Sea in River John , Nova Scotia this summer #readbythesea#elizabethhay
