#EveryBreathYouTake
Last weekend I watched a very awkward, yet creepy & memorable movie called Speak No Evil. While watching it the tagged Simenon came to mind. This was my first experience with the prolific French author & it is a standalone work. About a well to do couple vacationing on a French island, the husband develops an obsession with escaping his regular day to day life. Has a claustrophobic feeling to it.

peaKnit At first I thought this post was about the “circle game” 👌🏻 lol! The movie you watched and this book sound intriguing. 2y
vivastory @peaknit 😂 😂 They were both interesting in their own ways, but I think both had great sense of atmosphere & psychology. Some might say that the movie is a horror movie, but I would call it more of a dark psychological thriller. Also both were definitely a bit of a slow-burn but pretty unforgettable. 2y

Pickpick

Penguin has been publishing Simenon in translation for the past few years but this is the first one I‘ve read. The Mahé Circle is a short, melancholy study of a 1940‘s family man consumed by an obsession. It‘s not fast paced or plot driven but insightful and well written. I liked it a lot and will read more of his work.
