Intriguing story of a young medical student arriving in Paris to study anatomy in 1815. He meets a woman and her daughter who navigate the underworld of thieves, spies, Darwinian evolution theory, and napoleon‘s exile. A LOT going on and at times even a reader‘s suspension of disbelief is unable to make this a solid winner.

Paris, 1815 Daniel Connor, a young medical student from Edinburgh, has arrived to study anatomy at the Jardin des Plantes only to realize that his letters of introduction and precious coral specimens, on which his tenure with the legendary Dr. Cuvier depends, have been stolen. His thief turns out to be a beautiful woman who lives in a shadowy realm of outlaws, philosophers, and emigres.
On his way to study medicine and natural philosophy in Paris immediately post-Napoleon, young Daniel Connor has his letters of recommendation and priceless fossils stolen by a mysterious mesmerizing woman when he falls asleep on the mail coach. But what can she want with them?
Paris, 1815, free thinkers, collectors, intellectuals in bold dialog asking and answering philosophical questions. Very interesting and entertaining read
