What Ales the Earl
What Ales the Earl | Sally MacKenzie
5 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Scandal does not define the “fallen” ladies of Puddledon Manor’s Benevolent Home. Instead, it’s a recipe for an intoxicating new future as the women combine their talents—to operate their own brewery and alehouse . . . When Penelope Barnes arrived at the Home with her young daughter, she discovered a knack for horticulture—and for cultivating the hops needed to produce a superlative pint. She put her scandalous affair with Harry Graham firmly in the past, along with the wrenching pain she felt when he went off to war. After all, she’d always known a farmer’s daughter had no future with an earl’s son. Now she has the pleasant memory of their passion, and she has little Harriet, for whom she would do anything—even marry a boring country vicar . . . Harry went off to fight for the Crown unaware that his delightful interlude with his childhood friend had permanent consequences. Now he’s back in England, catapulted into the title by his brother’s untimely death. He sorely misses his former life of unfettered adventure, so when he has reason to explore Little Puddledon, he jumps at the chance. But what he finds there is something—and someone—he never knew he’d lost, and a once forbidden love whose time has come, if only he can persuade Pen he’s home to stay . . . Sally MacKenzie’s novels are . . . “Always a delight.” —Booklist, Starred Review “Perfect.” —RT Book Reviews “Naked, noble, and irresistible!” —Eloisa James “Great fun.” —Publishers Weekly

I turned the heel on a sock while I listened to WHAT ALES THE EARL. I‘ve gotta finish the book today so I‘m ready to start a queer audiobook for Gay May, which means I‘ve spent my Readathon scrounging around for audio-friendly activities. One more listening session should do the trick. #audioknitting #readathon #deweyapril

Can you believe we‘re almost at Hour 4 for Dewey‘s 24-Hour Readathon? The day goes by pretty quick when you‘ve got a stack of books to tackle.

How‘re you all doing so far? I‘m 40% into my with-eyeballs book and 23% into my audiobook, and I‘m about to dive into a comic. —@xicanti

Pickpick

Great escapism read. The story moved along quickly and the characters were entertaining. I‘m hoping there‘ll be sequels that tell what happens to some of the secondary characters. 4/5 #romance #novemberreads

I won this in a giveaway! One of my favorite tropes is a secret baby and there‘s not many historicals that have that trope.

I might have picked up some #romantsy books when I shopped for the kid‘s class books. My purchases went towards the school book fair total so how could I not get something? Am I right or am I right? 😉

AutumnRLS The Wilde series is fantastic. I love everything she's written and I don't even read that much romance! Have fun! 6y
Linear It took me way to long to figure out what she was holding in her hand that was coming from his neck lol 6y
