Elmer the elephant is bright-colored patchwork all over. No wonder the other elephants laugh at him! If he were ordinary elephant color, the others might stop laughing. That would make Elmer feel better, wouldn't it? The surprising conclusion of David McKee's comical fable is a celebration of individuality and the power of laughter. Elmer the elephant, a colorful character because of his patchwork hide and sense of humor, tries to blend in with the herd, but soon realizes that he's happiest just being himself. "McKee's gentle humor and love of irony are in full force in this celebration of individuality and laughter." -- Publisher's Weekly.

I've had the day from hell at work today ??? how I haven't snapped at my colleagues/clients or put someone through a wall is beyond me. I have decided I loathe 99% of people.
My day has been made by reading "Elmer" to my daughter at bed time and sinking a glass of chardonnay.
Aren't children's books a comfort blanket?!? ??

Deblovestoread Sorry you had a crap day! Nice job holding it together and glad you could end your day on a high note. 😊 2y

Not an elephant but a patchwork UooUoo! This one was is outside the Arts Centre. Created by artist Melinda Harper...

LibrarianRyan Very interesting. Could be a hippo or a manatee or a fat person touching their toes. I like it. 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LibrarianRyan, I was thinking wombat - but it‘s a bit ambiguous (it‘s part of an art trail to celebrate the 150 anniversary of the Royal Children‘s Hospital in Melbourne) (edited) 4y
LibrarianRyan @thegirlwiththelibrarybag that cool. Did they do that thing where there are bunch all over town decorated by different artists. ? 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LibrarianRyan, yes there are 100 UooUoo‘s spread out across Melbourne and Geelong... each one created by a different Australian artist. 4y
LibrarianRyan @thegirlwiththelibrarybag lucky duck. I love those forms as art installation. 4y

A cute little book about how sometimes the things we don‘t like about ourselves, the things that make us different, are worth celebrating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #a2z #bbrc @LibrarianRyan

royallyregan93 I have a t-shirt themed after this book. It has 3 regular elephants and one of Elmer all lined up and then it says “It‘s okay to be a little different.” (edited) 5y
Hestapleton @royallyregan93 that‘s so cute! 5y

I love this book! The patchwork of the elephant is amazing and helps signify the difference of the animals.

Pickpick

This book was published in 1968. This book's theme involved self-esteem and reflection. It encouraged the reader to be comfortable in their own skin. The illustrations allowed vibrant colors and animals which provide relationships to children.
