*sigh* Another one bites the dust. Again- not the fault of the book- my Covid state of mind seems to be to blame. Decided I am going to scrap my Halloween TBR and just jump to warm and fuzzy Christmas books.

Ok. Think I found a book I can stick with. Anyone who understands the therapeutic powers of ice cream and hot fudge is speaking my language.
1. Tagged book and The Umbrella Academy Vol. 1
2. All About Passion by Stephanie Laurens
3. All the kids are home together for a change since Spring Break is extended 🤗 (we'll revisit how I feel about this soon after another week of having to feed all of them + a tag-a-long)

This was a good, if somewhat predictable, ghost story. The audiobook was good and I liked the way it differentiated the text from the graphic novel sections. I had some nitpicky critiques of the author. Some characters developed southern accents at the end of the book that they didn't have at the beginning and at times the narrator sounded more like she was reading to kindergarteners. Still an enjoyable listen though.
Spending my morning with Happy Color, coffee and my audiobook. It's going to be hard to go to work.
This was a fun read with some solid positive messages. The story combines a family‘s struggle to return to a life in New Orleans with the story of the author of an unpublished comic from the 1950s. There‘s also a great ghost story. It‘s told in chapters interspersed with a few pages of comic panels. I thoroughly enjoyed how all the pieces were woven together.

After bailing on The Language of Food I'm giving this #inspiredbylitsy title a try. I've listened to the author's Borden Chronicles series and loved it. Thanks for bringing this book to my attention @Daisey !

Just started this, and I‘m already loving it!
What a great book! I loved the spook and creepiness factor of the story. I also loved how the story was intertwined with a backstory in the form of a comic. Great characters and a very unique and great story!
Cherie Priest is great at creepy! Denise finds a comic hidden in the attic of the house her folks are fixing up in NOLA. Pages from the comic are interspersed w/the prose. Bad things start to happen when Denise reads the comic. I love the attention to detail on the book cover and jacket. Tara O'Connor is one of my favorite comic writers/illustrators and I love Cherie Priest. Double win for me!
A simple, yet solid, YA novel about a haunted house. I liked Denise, who is open minded enough to believe in ghosts, but also very practical because of her life circumstances. Graphic elements were a fun addition, and a nice twist at the end.
And done. Interesting premise and setting, and amazing illustrations but the book lost tension as it moved to the last third. There wasn‘t enough risk to really keep my interest and her growing friendships weren‘t given the kind of impact that is realistic for a girl in her situation.
Let‘s see what the kid thinks!

My daughter asked me to pre-read to see if it‘s any good. 😂
May be the first book of our mother-daughter book club. 😊

I‘ve been looking forward to putting on my cozy slippers and finishing this book all day!
I didn't realize this was a hybrid novel/comic and with it being horror I am so in.
