Hoosier Hysteria: A Memoir | Meri Henriques Vahl
Panpan

This book didn‘t work. While the title promises a focus on IU during a period of integration, the book instead focuses on the author as a freshman, spending more time on her haphazard love life than any encountered racism.
The dialogue is stilted and VERY obviously recreated. The writing in general is bad and all of the characters fell flat on the page. Simply not worth the time to read. ⭐️ #netgalley

Pickpick

Meri Henriques is a freshman from NY when she arrives on campus at Indiana University in 1963. She is shocked to witness the rampant racism, as she becomes part of the first class to live in integrated dorms.

Meri is forced to confront whether she wants to lay low in order to try and receive a scholarship to stay in school, or stand up for what she believes in.

Redwritinghood My Alma mater. Thank goodness a lot was different when I went there in the late 80s. 6y
LauraBytheBook @Redwritinghood I was there in the late 80‘s too! And I agree it was better in the 80‘s. 6y
Billypar Terrible to contemplate what it was like to be on the receiving end of so much hate when you're just trying to get an education 😔 6y
