TARGET: HEAD OF STATE A leader has fallen, and the procession route from Capitol Hill to the White House is lined with hundreds of thousands of mourners. None feel the loss of a President more keenly than Alex Cross, who has devoted his life to the public good. TARGET: UNITED STATES CABINET A sniper's bullet strikes a target in the heart of DC. Alex Cross's wife, Bree Stone, newly elevated chief of DC detectives, faces an ultimatum: solve the case, or lose the position for which she's worked her entire career. The Secret Service and the FBI deploy as well in the race to find the shooter. Alex is tasked by the new President to take a personal role with the FBI, leading an investigation unprecedented in scale and scope. TARGET: ALEX CROSS Alex has a horrible premonition: is the sniper's strike only the beginning of a larger attack on the nation? It isn't long before his fears explode into life, and the nation plunges into a full-blown Constitutional crisis. His ingenuity, his training, and his capacity for battle are tested beyond limits in the most far-reaching and urgently consequential case of his life. As the rule of law is shattered by chaos, and Alex fights to isolate a suspect, Alex's loyalty may be the biggest danger of all.

If you've ever read Patterson, you are familiar with his Alex Cross series. DC detective, psychologist turned consultant who solves crime, often but not always political crimes with his tribe, a best friend, wife etc. Even his Granny Nana Mama can get into it. Entertaining if you like solving mysteries and can handle some of the more technical weapon jargon and assassin motives. This one is a conspiracy theorists dream scenario.

While I did enjoy reading this installment of the Alex Cross series, I found it rather predictable. It was action-packed as with the rest of the series and a few favorite characters return, so that was nice.

Best book I think JP has written in a while. It has assassins and assassinations. Set up for a continuation in the next book according to the ending.

Assassins and Assassinations galore! Washington DC is turned upside down by very calculated murders. Side story of a patient named Nina Davis which should lead to a next book and another serial killer. One of Patterson‘s better reads lately.

Not quite sure about this one. I just couldn't really get into it, I found it boring 😒

Hope Alex Cross isn't going the same way as Jack Reacher👎

kristincatastrophic Oh no, I got this for my dad for Christmas. Hopefully he won't be disappointed too. 6y
suzie.reads @kristincatastrophic don't worry I'm sure he'll love it. It just wasn't my favourite. 6y

Good, not my favorite. Alex is on the hunt for possible assassins that are trying to cripple the United States. Fast paced, smart, and entertaining!!!!

suzie.reads I'm halfway through and still wondering where this is going, its a bit boring for an Alex Cross book 😒 6y
Booknerd2 @suziereads I kind of agree. Usually go through his books in a day or two but this one took longer. It comes together in the end though. 6y

Not sure exactly how many stars to give this but it's either 3.5 or 4.

This book was okay. Not one of his greatest Alex Cross books. The way the last chapter ended was probably the most exciting thing in the book to me.

larah17 I read Mary, Mary by him recently and that one was a bit meh also! He‘s hit or miss for me 😬 6y
JeaMar82 @larah17 The only two series that I really enjoy by him are Michael Bennett and Harriet Blue. Alex Cross and Women's Murder Club have reached their limit with me I think. 6y

This is a great political, conspiracy thriller that‘s fast pacing brings tension and suspense to life and a stunning cliffhanger too.

Another Alex Cross thriller, if you‘ve ready any of these, you‘ll know what to expect...a little formulaic but good
