Five Years From Now
Five Years From Now | Paige Toon
10 posts | 17 read | 5 to read
'One day, maybe five years from now, you'll look back and understand why this happened...' Vian and Nell are thrown together at the age of five when Vian's mother and Nell's father fall in love. At first wary of each other, they soon become the best of friends. But five years later, they are torn apart and Vian moves to the other side of the world. Fast-forward five more years to when Vian comes to visit, and Nell discovers that the boy she once knew is now 'Van' - a wild and carefree teenager. Chemistry crackles, but once again, they're separated. For the next two decades, Nell and Van meet every five years, but life and circumstance always intervene. Will they ever find true happiness? And will it be together?

I look forward to the Dec BOTM picks because they typically include a book with an earlier publishing date. I feel like it must be their one that got away so I‘m compelled to select and support the idea that earlier works are new if you are yet to read them. This was fun to read (even if 6 months late) because I really didn‘t know what direction the lives of Nell or Vian/Van would take at each 5-year increment. 👇

marleed I‘m not sure if this makes sense but my small criticism is once they became adults so much of this story was told in past tense that it started reading like a long epilogue. 5mo

I really wanted to like this book, but it just dragged on and on. I didn‘t like the ending, I‘m not sure what it was really alluding to but it didn‘t fit or feel right. Why create a love story about people who can‘t be together? Book #30 in 2024

Pruzy Wow, I like the index note shelf talker format of your posts! 7mo
Allthebookclubs Thank you! They‘re actually in a notebook but I crop them to keep it 1 per review. 7mo

This is such a wonderful read. It will make you cry as it‘s so sad in places, but the story is beautifully written. It‘s a tale of friendship, romance and love that spans the years. Once you pick this book up, you won‘t want to put it down until you‘ve read the last page.

This is the first time I‘ve read one of her books. Despite the hype I wasn‘t blown away. I have a few more of her books to read but they‘ll be put on hold for a much later date. Nevertheless it is an easy read. It just didn‘t blow me away.
