Jane Austen's England
Jane Austen's England: A Walking Guide | Anne-Marie Edwards
3 posts | 2 to read
This is an engaging account of Austen's life and work, arranged as a series of walking tours through the towns and countryside she knew and loved - the settings for her novels. The 15 circular walks in the book describe the country houses, churches, great estates and elegant cities Austen knew and introduce the reader to the real-life people she met, many of whom gave her hints for the characters in her novels. The walks include Godmersham House, the inspiration for Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice and the view from Box Hill, scene of the 'exploring party' in Emma. This remains the only guide to Austen's England.

I highlighted this one a few years ago on Litsy, and it works perfectly for the final #200PnPCovers prompt #walks . Take the paths of Austen on these self guided tours of Austen‘s stomping grounds. Along the way, Edwards highlights Austen history and the area‘s history.

Thanks to @CrowCAH and @mabell for hosting a fun Austen challenge!!

I‘m a little behind on #SelfImprovementSept !

My #bucketlist includes traveling to England and visiting Jane Austen sites. Until I can accomplish this, I‘ll live vicariously through travel guides that take the reader step by step through Austen‘s world. This is one of them. 15 walking guides are included, as well as a narrative about the significance of locations along the walks.

OriginalCyn620 I want to do the same thing! 😊 5y
