This book is a little bit Harry Potter and Hunger Games but with a story all its own. I especially liked the characters of Finn and Rocio. Their budding romance was sweet. The 16 year-olds who are not “chosen” can have their magic dampened or choose to prove themselves in the Exam on Rikers Island and be named Champions. The Exam is a series of brutal magical challenges. This book is full of action & a fun, quick read.
1. My goal this weekend was to finish the tagged #NetGalley book. However that didn't work out too well for me 😬 too much going on.
2. Went to my parents for a family BBQ
3. Grilled shrimp & steak

This title is being described on #netgalley as “Harry Potter” meets “The Hunger Games!” Naturally I had to request it... I‘m only a few chapters in, but so far it‘s quite good. #arc I‘m generally pretty skeptical when a book is calls “the next Harry Potter” though. That feels like a tall order.
Just approved for #ruthlessmagic on #netgalley. Out May 30th so I need to read fast, but Harry Potter meets Hunger Games?
🎇🎆 Yes please
