pickJoanna, the daughter of Sherlock, her husband, John and his father, Watson are tasked with locating a document that will be of vital importance as Europe heads towards war. Complex mystery, but the Edwardian era dialogue feels stilted. It keeps me from being invested in the action. It is a soft pick, so I am giving it 3 of 5 ⭐️.

I wanted to like this 2nd instalment of this series as much as the first, but found it difficult. The story itself was not the issue here.
I found it annoying that the author felt the need to continually point out Johanna‘s lineage...again & again. I also very much disliked the condescension she continually uses when speaking to others. I‘m not going to continue this series at this time.

pickBook 2 in a female Sherlockian series, I wasn't quite as enamored with this one. The first book there's the great discovery of who the female MC is and in this one she just got a little annoying with the "look at how clever I am with my deduction skills" and a little condescending to Watson too. The mystery is still interesting and it's nice seeing the multi-generational component but Joanna seemed to get on my nerves this time around.
pickI loved this book! The mystery was compelling, the writing strong and I had a lot of fun seeing a female, married Sherlock. It felt too Sherlock-explains-everything-to-Watson at times and the comparisons to Sherlock were a bit excessive, but that didn‘t dampen my overall enjoyment of the storytelling. With a library, old manor and compelling literary mystery, this book was my catnip! I will be going back to pick up book one! #netgalley #bookreview
